Privacy policy
Last updated July 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy is provided for transparency and is not legal advice.
This Privacy Policy explains how Hazel ("Hazel," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use Hazel's websites, apps, communications, early-access products, and related services (the "Service").
Hazel is designed to help people cultivate clarity, alignment, and aliveness. That requires trust. Our goal is to collect only what we need, use it in ways that serve the user's agency, and be clear about how Hazel's memory works.
1. Our privacy commitment
Your conversations belong to you.
Hazel is built around people's inner lives: the questions they are carrying, the relationships that matter, the choices they are facing, and the directions that feel alive. We treat that information with care.
We do not sell your personal data or private conversations. We use your information to provide, protect, personalize, and improve Hazel, as described in this Privacy Policy. Hazel's memory exists to help the Service understand and serve you better, not to exploit what you share.
2. Who operates Hazel
Hazel is operated under the name Hazel. Until a separate legal entity is formed, references to "Hazel," "we," "us," and "our" mean the operator of the Hazel service.

If you have questions or requests about privacy, contact us at the privacy email above.
3. Information we collect
We may collect the following categories of information.
Account information
This may include your name, email address, account credentials or authentication details, profile information, subscription status, and basic account settings.
Conversations and reflections
Hazel may collect and store the messages, reflections, prompts, voice transcripts, notes, and other content you submit to Hazel, along with Hazel's responses.
Because Hazel is a reflective product, the content you share may include sensitive personal information about your life, relationships, work, values, emotions, choices, goals, or personal history. Please use care when sharing information about yourself or others.
Memory and derived understanding
Hazel may create summaries, user models, quests, invitations, entities, relationship context, or other structured memory from your conversations and activity. These records help Hazel remember what matters across sessions and respond with more useful questions, reflections, and invitations.
Hazel's memory is intended to support understanding, not maximize retention. We aim to preserve uncertainty, avoid overclaiming, and use memory to help you return to real life with more clarity and agency.
Compass and ritual data
If you use the Reality Compass or related features, we may collect orientation signals, timestamps, commitments, NFC tap events, device-related metadata, and related interaction records.
Connection and invitation data
If Hazel helps you discover people, communities, events, projects, or opportunities, we may process information related to those recommendations, introductions, event interests, RSVP-like actions, availability, preferences, and follow-up reflections.
Hazel should not introduce you to another person without appropriate consent and controls.
Communications and marketing
If you join a waitlist, subscribe to Hazel communications, contact us, or participate in research, we may collect your email address, communication preferences, survey responses, feedback, and related metadata.
Payment information
If Hazel offers paid products, payment information may be processed by a third-party payment provider. We generally do not store full payment card details ourselves.
Device, usage, and technical information
We may collect information such as IP address, device type, browser type, operating system, app version, log data, pages or screens viewed, session events, crash reports, approximate location derived from IP address, and other diagnostic or analytics information.
Cookies and similar technologies
Hazel websites and apps may use cookies, local storage, pixels, SDKs, and similar technologies to operate the Service, remember preferences, improve performance, understand usage, and support security.
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- provide, operate, personalize, and improve Hazel
- create and update Hazel's memory of your context, patterns, quests, and invitations
- respond to your messages, questions, feedback, and support requests
- help you reflect on decisions, transitions, relationships, projects, and life directions
- recommend or facilitate relevant people, communities, events, projects, places, or opportunities
- manage accounts, authentication, subscriptions, and payments
- send service messages, product updates, early-access communications, and marketing where permitted
- understand usage, debug issues, prevent abuse, and keep Hazel secure
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms
- conduct research and product development, including with aggregated or de-identified information
5. AI processing
Hazel uses AI systems to provide conversation, reflection, memory, summarization, and recommendation features. To do this, we may send relevant parts of your conversations, memory, and context to AI infrastructure providers or other service providers that help operate Hazel.
We do not intend for your private conversations or personal memory to be used to train third-party public foundation models unless we clearly disclose that practice or ask for your consent where required.
We may use aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified information to evaluate and improve Hazel, provided it is not reasonably used to identify you.
6. How we share information
We may share information in the following situations.
Service providers
We may share information with vendors and service providers who help us operate Hazel, such as hosting, databases, authentication, analytics, AI infrastructure, email delivery, payments, customer support, security, and product operations providers.
These providers may process information only as needed to provide services to us and are expected to protect it appropriately.
User-directed sharing
If you choose to share content, accept an introduction, RSVP to an event, join a community, connect with another user, or otherwise direct Hazel to disclose information, we may share the information needed to complete that action.
Introductions and relational features
Hazel may eventually help introduce people who are exploring similar questions, values, missions, or life directions. We will design these features around consent, context, and user control. We should not disclose private conversation history to another user without your direction or clear permission.
Legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to legal process, protect the rights, safety, and security of Hazel or others, prevent fraud or abuse, or investigate potential violations of our terms.
Business transfers
If Hazel is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will try to ensure that the receiving party honors this Privacy Policy or provides notice of material changes.
Aggregated or de-identified information
We may share information that has been aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified so that it does not reasonably identify you.
7. What we do not do
Hazel does not sell your private conversations.
Hazel does not aim to maximize information retention for its own sake.
Hazel does not intend to use your personal reflections to manipulate you, replace your judgment, or create dependency.
Hazel does not disclose your private conversation history to other users without your direction or clear permission.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- access the personal information we have about you
- correct inaccurate information
- delete your account or certain information
- export or receive a copy of your information
- object to or restrict certain processing
- opt out of marketing communications
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- appeal a decision about your privacy request, where applicable
You can make a request by contacting us at the privacy email listed above. We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.
You can opt out of marketing emails by using the unsubscribe link in those emails. You may still receive service-related messages, such as account, security, billing, or product notices.
9. Memory controls and deletion
Hazel's usefulness depends partly on memory, but memory should remain accountable to the user.
We intend to provide ways for users to review, update, delete, or reset information Hazel remembers, including account data, conversation history, summaries, user models, quests, invitations, or related memory records where technically feasible and legally required.
Deleting one record may require us to update or regenerate related derived memory. For example, if you delete a conversation message, summaries or user models derived from that message may also need to be reviewed or updated.
Some information may be retained for limited periods where required for security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, accounting, backups, or legitimate business operations.
10. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Hazel, maintain your account, honor your choices, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and improve the Service.
Because Hazel includes long-term memory, some conversation and derived memory records may be retained until you delete them, reset memory, close your account, or request deletion, subject to legal and technical limits.
If you ask us to delete your account or personal information, we will aim to complete the request within 30 days after verifying the request, unless we need more time because the request is complex or we are legally permitted or required to retain certain information.
Information stored in backups may persist for a limited period after deletion from active systems, but we will not intentionally restore deleted personal information except where needed for security, legal compliance, disaster recovery, or similar purposes.
We may retain limited records after deletion where reasonably necessary for legal compliance, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, accounting, or enforcing our agreements.
11. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. These may include access controls, encryption in transit, secure infrastructure, logging, monitoring, and internal limits on who can access user information.
No system is perfectly secure. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials safe and notifying us if you believe your account has been compromised.
12. International users
Hazel may process and store information in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate. These countries may have privacy laws different from those in your location.
If required, we will use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers of personal information.
13. Children
Hazel is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.
If Hazel later becomes available in regions or contexts with higher age requirements, we will update this policy and product controls accordingly.
14. Health, therapy, and emergency information
Hazel is not a medical provider, therapist, emergency service, or crisis service. Please do not use Hazel as a substitute for professional care or emergency support.
If you are in immediate danger or experiencing an emergency, contact local emergency services or a qualified crisis support resource.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice where appropriate, such as through the Service or by email.
If a change materially affects how we use previously collected personal information, we will seek consent where required.
